Why this weekend
A city built for lingering.
Montreal wakes up in little cafés opened by people who thought coffee deserved their particular way of doing things. That first cup soon becomes people-watching from a terrace over a crisp bottle of white. The afternoon disappears into Mile End, where particular tastes spill onto the street — through murals, vintage shops, record stores, and people who dress as though being looked at is part of the fun.
Stay long enough and you'll find the places people gather simply to gather: crowded parks, neighborhood cafés, tiny jazz bars where local musicians take the stage. No great urgency to move on. No reason to call it a night just yet.
Bring a group that likes to linger; the city will keep the table.

From the riverfront to the cafés beneath the mountain, Montreal changes character every few blocks.
Happily, it’s all rather close.
Wander north for the afternoon; come back south when it’s time to get dressed.
Most nights will pull you between Old Montreal and downtown; most mornings are better somewhere quieter.
